Azalea Middle School Athletics & Activities Update (Dec. 2020)

In light of the recent OSAA updates and several of the counties in our league being in the "red" zone, our middle school league has decided to go with the following plan.

 

Each sport will get an equal 5-week opportunity to hold their season:

  • Season 1 Feb 8 - March 20 - Football, Volleyball, and Cross Country
  • Season 2 March 29 - May 7 - Track
                      March 29 - June 7 - Cheer
  • Season 3 May 3- June 7  - Boys and Girls Basketball, Wrestling

 

The plan above was agreed upon by all the middle school athletic directors in our coastal league (Siuslaw, Coos Bay, North Bend, Myrtle Point, Coquille, Bandon, Powers, Gold Beach, Port Orford, Waldport).

 

Coaches have been told that games may not happen this year. The league has talked about Saturday tournament-style games for each sport (this is due to the shortage of subs to cover teachers, lack of available buses and drivers, afternoon cohort students potentially missing large chunks of instruction to travel for athletics, and afternoon cohorts ending so late in the day).

 

If Saturday games are not feasible, then the middle school season will look similar to what the high school did this early fall, having practices and training, but no competition.

Brookings Harbor School District uses an Electronic Athletic Form. The account you set up now, will be used all through High School! 

 

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE.  The office closes at 3:45.  Please allow enough time for the office to process your registration & notify the coach of eligibility.

What you'll need for Athletic registration: 

  • Person to contact in case of emergency (Other than parents)
  • Insurance Information
  • SIGN UP FOR ALL SPORTS YOUR STUDENT MAY BE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING. 
 

****If your student does not have insurance, you can purchase some at http://www.k12StudentInsurance.com    You will need to have your student ID number, and a credit card.  Print off the confirmation and bring it to the office.
 

Your student must be signed up through FamilyID (above) and have an updated physical BEFORE they can participate. The student must be cleared by their doctor. Physicals are good for two years. Click the link below to print out a physical form.

Physicals require a paper copy turned into the school. 
Physicians MUST use the district approved physical form.  (See link below)

Cheer/Dance
Cheer will run from 3/30 until 6/7
Practices will be held Tuesday and Thursday 5:00 - 7:00

Changes in Transportation from Athletic Events

NEEDED:
A letter from the parent or guardian of the student stating :

  • Student's name
  • Date of the event
  • Who is taking the student from the event
  • Phone number
  • Parent or Guardian printed name & Signature
 

NEEDED:
A letter from the person taking the student stating:  

  • Your name
  • that you are taking responsibility for Student's name
  • Date of the event
  • Printed name & signature
 

Staff needs to have BOTH letters approved and signed by the vice principal, make a copy, and give it to the coach BEFORE departure. 

If any of these steps are missing the student will need to take the school bus home from the event.  NO EXCEPTIONS.
