Alert: Rise in Drug Use and Injury of Local Youth

Joint Release from Brooking Police Department & Brookings-Harbor School District

Feb. 4, 2022

We would like to alert parents and guardians that there has been an uptick in drug use and abuse among teens and even younger-aged kids. There have been several instances of injury and hospitalization of school-aged children locally.

There is a high risk of serious long-term injury or death from bad batches or fake pills that have been identified in our community.

What can you do? Talk to your children about the risks of drug use, and the existence of deadly batches or fakes. The Brookings Police Department, Curry Juvenile Department, Oregon Health Authority-Curry, and Brookings-Harbor School District are joined in purpose to help prevent senseless death and injury of young people in the community and have resources to assist you.

The Curry Juvenile Department also provides home drug tests free-of-charge to parents/guardians to test members of their household privately. For information and to obtain a test kit, call 541-247-3375.
