Winter Spectator Notice

December 6, 2021

Hello Bruins,

As we roll into Winter Athletics and Activities competition seasons here at the district, it's important to remember our duties as spectators. It's our responsibility as supporters of these athletes and our visitors from around the state to ensure that they receive a fun, safe, and inviting environment.

One of our top priorities is to be able to continue to provide families and the community the opportunity to show their support as spectators at our students’ events, such as boys and girls basketball, wrestling, cheerleading, winter color guard, robotics, and drama.

In order to be able to have games, meets, and performances and have spectators at them, BHSD is required to follow the OHA rules currently in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Currently, masks are required for spectators at all indoor sports and activities. Since the start of the school year, an updated rule allows students to not wear a mask when they are directly participating in an event or practice. When not playing, they must still wear a mask (such as sitting on the bench or sideline).

However, spectators still need to wear their masks in our indoor spaces at all times -- regardless of vaccination status.

In support of our students and the district’s ability to continue to allow spectators, we ask that you follow the mask requirement. If a staff member requests that you put your mask on, please do so. They do not have the ability or authority to permit you to not wear a mask.

Worst case, if spectators refuse to wear masks, the district may have to forfeit a contest or could lose the ability to permit spectators. That would be an unnecessary and avoidable loss of key support for our student athletes. Respectfully, we ask you to wear a mask for our students.

If you have any questions about specific rules and requirements, please feel free to contact the athletic coordinator or the superintendent.

Thank you

GO BRUINS!
