It's time to make sure that your student's immunization record is up-to-date. Immunization exclusion date is coming up for all schools in the State of Oregon including Brookings-Harbor School District.
The immunization exclusion date for all K-12 students is February 21, 2024. On or after that date, students with incomplete records will be excluded from both in-person and online school until the requirement is met and the school district is provided documentation showing that it has been met. This is mandated by the State of Oregon.
Each year, state required school exclusion reports are submitted in January. The report lists all students who have an incomplete immunization record. Immunization records are due at student registration. Parents/guardians of students who have missing records do receive repeated mailing and notices prior to exclusion day. Josephine County currently oversees Curry County. Parents/guardians of students with incomplete or missing immunization records will also receive a final notice from the Josephine County Health Department prior to exclusion.
If you are unable to schedule an appointment with your child's primary care provider by the exclusion deadline, please consider these alternative options:
Coast Community Health's school-based health center located at Brookings-Harbor High School. Children of all ages K-12 are invited to use their services and immunizations are available. Please contact them to schedule your child's appointment.
Rite Aid and Fred Meyer both offer immunizations in their pharmacies. They recommend contacting them prior to your visit to ensure the immunization(s) your child needs are in stock and the pharmacist is available for administration. This service is limited to children 7 years of age and older.
If You Choose Not to Immunize Your Child
If you choose not to immunize your child you can do one of the following options below to obtain a non-medical exemption. Please visit the Oregon Health Authority for further instructions. This information is also available on the first mailing that you received from the District.
Option 1
Watch an online vaccine education module and submit your Certificate of Completion to the school that your child attends. The modules take approximately 10-60 minutes depending on the number of immunizations you are obtaining exemption for.
Option 2
Talk to a health care provider and have them sign a Vaccine Education Certificate then submit a copy of that certificate to the school your child attends.
If your child has a medical condition and should NOT receive immunizations, a doctor's order stating they are to be Medically Exempt from immunizations is required. This type of exemption is decided upon by your child's primary care provider and may be temporary or permanent.
